Cope Hall: A Women’s Training Colony

Cope Hall, near Newbury was first believed to have been built in the Tudor period. This talk by Carol describes its more recent history when it was used as a Women’s Training Colony. A place where “rescued” women who might otherwise have found themselves in prison. Here, in this large house and gardens of over twenty acres, with the help of Dr Helen Wilson and her team the women could learn new skills for a better future.

This talk is free to members of Berkshire Family History Society but we request a donation of £5 from non-members.
