Sat 6th Aug

Morning session 10:00 - 12:00 | Afternoon Session 14:00 - 16:00

First ever Online Heritage Fair for Berkshire!

Organised by Berkshire Family History Society and Berkshire Local History Association

  • Online, so location is no barrier to being able to attend
  • Session timings are pitched to allow as many people as possible from across the world to join in.
  • The event will use Zoom breakout rooms, and each participating heritage organisation will be given their own room
  • Free to attend and you may sign up for one or both sessions.

Numbers are limited though - so please book your place early.

My tech skills are limited - will this be difficult?

If you can use Zoom - you can do this. It’s dead easy and we have experts on hand all day to help you.

If you haven’t yet used Zoom but have a computer device with internet access with microphone, speakers and a camera - either built-in or as separate plug-ins (such as a laptop or tablet) - we can help you to be able to use Zoom.

Who will be there?

Replies are still coming back and so this list will grow over the following months. However, the following organisations have already confirmed that they will be there

What’s the benefit of attending?

If you have an interest in historic Berkshire or some particular location within it you'll find this beneficial. You may be interested in family history, the history of a particular parish or property, military or transport history or just social history generally. You'll be able to:

  • Connect with local experts about locations, businesses, industries or families you are interested in.
    • Some of these organisations have their own archives and will be able to give advice about their archive and how you can access it.
    • They may be able to share general or specific information and images with you and point you to new sources you were previously unaware of.
  • Conversely, you may be able to share information on your own family or heritage research with them.
  • Gain advice and guidance on Berkshire-specific resources and sources.
  • Get help with your own family history research - from getting started to breaking down brick walls.
  • Build lasting connections with new contacts beyond this event.

You may chat with as many different heritage groups during the fair as you want to by simply moving from one “room” to the next. Please note: you may need to wait your turn to ask a question while those who arrived before you are looked after.>

Getting the most out of the day

Over the coming weeks we'll add more information about the participating organisations and what they can offer. So do use the information to plan your day and what groups you wish to talk about.

  • What organisations may be able to help your research?
  • What family names/properties and businesses do you wish to know more about?
  • What information could you supply which may help others?
  • Do you have any old images or documents or are you seeking any old images or documents?
