That Summer – a wartime evacuation to Kintbury

It started with reading a manuscript some twenty years after her mother passed away. Join Sarah as she talks about the true story of her mother’s evacuation, as a child evacuee, during WW2 from Portsmouth to Kintbury. How the family managed during this challenging time and how the manuscript eventually evolved into the book That Summer. Sarah then follows on from That Summer and explores the life of her family after the war. This led to Sarah retracing her family’s past, back to Huguenot descendants in rural East Kent, and onto modern day Portsmouth.

During the talk Sarah will be covering how she managed to find and trace her own family history.

This talk is free to members of Berkshire Family History Society but we request a donation of £5 from non-members.
