Researching and writing the Mourning Brooch Trilogy

Researching and writing historical fiction based on fact. The Mourning Brooch, Books One and Two cover 1849-1913 and follow the lives of the daughters of the Doncaster farmer’s wife commemorated in the brooch.

Increasingly, people are fascinated by their family tree and the many family history societies around the country provide valuable knowledge and resources to say nothing of their enthusiasm. In researching the author’s books, the following have offered significant support: Doncaster & District Family History Society; Bradford Family History Society; Liverpool & South-West Lancashire Family History Society, and by presenting to Berkshire Family Society she hopes to get valuable feedback and sharing of knowledge.

To join in this branch meeting, you will need a computer device which has a microphone and speakers. Ideally, also a webcam. You also need to be able to access emails from this device. Jean Renwick

Jean started creative writing after she retired following a career in public relations, and after she had spent three years attaining a Masters in History of Art at the University of Warwick and in Venice. Since the 1990s she wanted to write a novel based on a curious brooch which she inherited from her godmother, but decided a course in creative writing at the University of Warwick would be beneficial first.

She lives in the West Midlands, within easy reach of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Stratford-upon-Avon with its RSC. As a founding member of Art Friends Warwickshire, she is active in fund-raising for the arts.
