Creating a One-Street or One-Place Study
One-place studies are a blend of family history and local history, with a focus on the entire population of a single road, village or community, not just a single, geographically dispersed family line.
Such studies are frequently undertaken by family historians wanting to create a context for their ancestors.
This talk by Gill Thomas will tell us how to use genealogical and other resources to create a One-Place Study and how this can inform family history research.
This talk is free to members of Berkshire Family History Society and we request a donation of £5 from non-members. Pre-booking is required, because the meeting link will be emailed in advance. Booking ends one day before event.

Gill ThomasLondon-based professional genealogist, Gill Thomas specialises in tracing Welsh ancestry. Raised in Surrey but being solidly of Welsh stock, she is a graduate of University College Cardiff (B.A. History). Following a commercial career in marketing, she was latterly Marketing Director for part of Penguin Books specialising in children’s publishing such as Beatrix Potter and Ladybird Books.
Having been a keen amateur family historian, Gill decided to turn her hobby into a professional occupation, completing a post-graduate course at the University of Strathclyde in Genealogical and Palaeographic Studies. She is a Member of AGRA (the Association of Genealogists and Researchers in Archives) and a member of the Events committee involved in organising their next conference at Pembroke College Oxford in September 2019 – Bloomin’ Ancestors – giving your family history personality. Gill is also a regular lecturer at the Society of Genealogists.
Gill lives in Chiswick in west London near the National Archives at Kew with her family including her Corgi Taffy. Naturally, she is a passionate rugby fan….
