Branches & Breakthroughs: Family History Discussion Group

Have you hit a “brick wall” in your research, or have you just unearthed a remarkable family secret?  Join us for an evening dedicated to the stories that make us who we are.  This isn’t a formal lecture – it’s an inviting, small group gathering designed for family historians of all levels to connect, collaborate, and celebrate our shared heritage.

New to Family History? If you have ever wondered where you came from but don’t know where to start, this is the perfect night for you.  You don’t need a finished family tree or any prior experience to attend.  Come along to hear how others began their journeys, learn about the best tools to get started, and pick the brains of those who have been “ancestor hunting” for years.  We were all beginners once, and we would love to help you find your first branch.

What to Expect

  • Solve Your Mysteries: Bring your research hurdles and “brick-walls”.  We will brainstorm new angles and resources to help you get back on the trail.
  • Share Your Successes: Whether it’s a long-lost record or a surprising DNA match, we want to hear about your “eureka” moments!
  • Community Connection: Meet fellow researchers in a relaxed, informal setting where every story – and every ancestor – matters.

Good to Know

  • Refreshments: We will have the kettle on! Tea and coffee will be available to keep the ideas flowing.
  • Raffle: Join in for a chance to win a prize and help support the society.
  • Easy Access: There is a large free car park directly adjacent to the hall.
  • Open to all: Visitors and non-members are warmly welcomed for just £5 per person.

Booking Information: Advance booking is appreciated but not required. Non-members have the option to register and pay online in advance. If you prefer to pay on arrival, please note that we can only accept cash payments at the venue.

Whether you are a seasoned genealogist or just starting your very first family tree, there is a seat at the table for you.
