Getting the Most from FamilySearch
FamilySearch is a nonprofit organisation and website offering a substantial range and number of family history records, including databases and record images, from over 110 countries across the world. It is operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Access to the records is free, and anyone can register for a free account. However some records have restricted access due to the varying authorisation contracts in place. Meaning that some can only be viewed at a FamilySearch Center, at an Affiliate Library, or by church members. Berkshire Family History Society’s new Family Research Centre is one such Affiliate Library giving visitors access to over 300 million more records than can be viewed at home.
Find out how to get the most from this free website with the former director of the London FamilySearch Centre. This will include a short introduction together with some brief case studies chosen to illustrate different features.

Sharon HintzeCoordinator, Hyde Park FamilySearch CentreSharon Hintze is currently the Coordinator of the Hyde Park FamilySearch Centre at Exhibition Road. She was for twenty years the Director of the London FamilySearch Centre located at Exhibition Road and The National Archives at Kew.
She is a Fellow of the Society of Genealogists, Vice Chairman of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Great Britain and a Council member of the Irish Genealogical and Research Society. She is a fifth generation family historian, with ancestors primarily from England, Wales and Denmark and one Irish Presbyterian who left County Down at the time of the Great Hunger. All but two of her 2nd GG parents joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the mid-nineteenth century, and walked the 1000 miles from the Mississippi River to Utah. This may be the reason why few of her family have joint problems – if you couldn’t walk 1000 miles you are not her ancestor.
