To reduce fraud, Europe has adopted Strong Customer Authentication (SCA). This means:
YOUR bank decides if they require this proof of ID - it's not something we can control
All online payments will eventually be like this - it's not just us. If you need help call:
Paul on 07453 942315 or Dave on 07976 224481
SCA helps reduce card fraud by occasionally requiring you to provide external authentication that you are who you say you are. SCA is appearing everywhere so we have to get used to it if we live in the European Economic Area. Rollout has been slow in the UK but it is coming, like it or not.
There are several methods of authenticating yourself but the most likely to be used by our demographic is a code sent by text message to your phone. You only need a regular phone - one that can receive text messages. If you don't have a mobile phone, you can have the code sent to you by email instead. There are other more technologically advanced methods but they are not covered here.
We have changed the bit where you enter your card details. It used to be part of the renewal page, but we need to make it clearer WHO is asking for your card details and is handling the SCA requirement. So now you will be seamlessly transferred to Stripe - our card payment processor's site - where you will make payment.
Any prompts you get on that page are coming from Stripe and your bank - we're not involved and have no access to any of the data. So for example, if they offer you the ability to create a quick way of handling future payment - express checkout- you are assured that it's handled on their secure site.
A feature of the new checkout process is you can check this box to create an express checkout for future payments:
Check this and you'll be prompted to enter a mobile phone number:
Next time you come to pay for membership, Stripe will automatically send you a text message containing a one-time code that you enter into the box that they show on the payment page - and that's all you have to do to complete your payment.
It's simple and secure
