SUMMARY:Tour of St Andrew’s, Sonning
DESCRIPTION:The first church or minster was established in Sonning in the 7th century by St Birinus. In the early tenth century it became a cathedral for the See of Ramsbury and Sonning. The current grade II listed building contains medieval additions and was heavily restored in the nineteenth century by the architect Henry Woodyer. Don’t miss the fragments of Anglo-Saxon sculpture and stonework embedded in the church fabric. Also the seventeenth-century Baroque Rich monument and brass memorial to Laurence Fyton (1434).\nJoin Peter van Went for this tour of this architecturally interesting church with its many stories. \nThe meeting place will be notified a few days before the visit. Please arrive 10 mins early for signing in and safety briefing etc.\nNumbers are limited, so pre-booking is required.
